So I thought that if I don't have anything new to post, i might as well show some old stuff.
The Cat Piano was wrapped up in January this year and has since gone on to very politely, and in good spirits, crush all whom stand in its way. It was in official competition at Annecy (I went to France!), won the award for best animated short at the Sydney and Melbourne film festivals, was recently short listed for an Oscar nomination (fingers crossed) and to top it all off, just took home an AFI.
The film was directed by Eddie White and Ari Gibson. I had an art direction role, my tasks included painting the backgrounds, working out a lot of environmental and special effects, talking to Ari (who doubled as lead animator) and the compositors in figuring out which plates needed to be supplied, as well as a share of compositing work when it all got crunchy. It was a crazy project with many twists and turns but totally rewarding to work with so many great artists.
